From August 1962 onward, Jaguar replaced the fragile early Shelly jack with the robust Metallifacture jack, which remained standard through late Series 1 and all Series 2 E-Types. Over the years, it underwent several improvements and design changes, including a special version for the 2+2 models.
While less rare than the first Shelly jack, original Metallifacture jacks are still highly collectible, especially early examples and 2+2 variants. Complete, well-preserved jacks are prized for authenticity, historical significance, and period-correct originality — a tangible piece of E-Type history.
